The framework

The frame for the upper boards begins to take shape!

There are four 4½ ton wenches that support videoboard. These are the same ones that held the previous scoreboard.

TRIVIA: The new scoreboard is slated to weigh in just over 33,000 lbs!!!

  1. looking at straight 2d (lxw) floor space.. which board is bigger? or are they about the same? I was trying to tell via the pictures and they look to be approx. the same...

How much did the old board weigh? 4.5x4x2=36 so you have 1.5 tons of spare.. Curious how close the other board was in this regards.

  3. Thanks for letting me know people are interested :) Otherwise, I'm just entertaining myself... so I guess that means I'm keeping this thing going no matter what ;)

As for physical dimensions, this entire structure will be a smidge shorter in height than the other one.... BUT, it's about 5' wider at it's widest point AND it's full LED with very little bezel (blank black space around the videoboard), so it will actually look ENORMOUS :)

In this post I explain that the upper boards are approximately 6.5' tall, and they're the smaller of the rectangular boards! You still have to add two rings and the main board before you're done :)

As for weight, the new board is lighter. I don't have exact numbers for the old one, but I've been told by several people over the past couple of years that we were very close to the rated limit with the old board (meaning 35K lbs or so). I know they had to do a lot of checking before they installed 5 JBL speakers underneath the scoreboard when the new sound system was put in.

Hope this is clear as mud :)

  4. Cool - thanks for doing this. It's very neat to watch things take shape and to have someone explain what's going on.
